Gunnestad is a minor place name in Norway, it lies about 30 miles south-west of Oslo. I agree with your explanation of the meaning. Gunn is an Old Norse name meaning "conflict, war", but it could also be the first component of a longer personal name.

Hmm, so it could also mean "place of conflict/war"? I'll have to look into the history of the town more and see. It could very well be built on the site of a long forgotten battle or even be a refuge of such a place. Then again, it could simply be named after a personage who did well in battle i.e. Gunn's Town. It'll be interesting to find out :-) Thanks!
