Vorsteg
My mother's maiden name is Vorsteg, but I couldn't find any information about it anywhere. I thought maybe it could be an anglicized version of the Hungarian Vastag, as it was the most similar thing I could find. As for ethnic background not already concerning the name I suggested, I don't know much about my mother's side, only that her own mother was strictly Italian. I will try and get more info about my grandfather's background later. Thoughts?

The first bearer of this name to arrive in the US was Herman Bernard Vorsteg from Germany (see tinyurl.com/gm2wh4q, tinyurl.com/z88gduq). I don't know what the name refers to beyond the fact that vor means 'in front of' and Steg means 'path' or 'footbridge'.
