Beau would be 'beautiful/handsome', de is 'of' and laire doesn't mean anything I think,

Why did 'Butler' come up as an alternative when I typed in Baudelaire? Butler is maitre d'hotel or something ...

Sorry, I was just guessing wildly. I was thinking of l'air (look, appearance), but this does not go with French grammar, I'm afraid. There seems to be a far better explanation of the name.
