surname crisis
Help! what does the surname Loudon (also used as a first name) mean? It is of Scottish, Welsh or Medieval English origin. I have looked everywhere for an answer. Thank you!

It is probably derived from either the Scottish region Lothian (meaning unknown) or the northern English town of Loudoun (from Middle English low "beacon" and dun "hill").

Alternatively it could be derived from Middle English lude, being a nickname for a loud person.
