The "Whedon" surname => "Wheaton"?
Hello!

I'm searching for the origin and meaning of the surname Whedon, and I happen to think that Whedon is perhaps a variant of the Wheaton surname. Does someone here know if that is correct? If so, then I'd also like to know the origin and meaning of the Wheaton surname, as I also am unable to find that. And if Whedon is not a variant of Wheaton, then please let me know if the surname is a variant of some other surname.

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

Lucille

According to my family history, Whedon was the original surname for Wheaton. I am still researching the name though and have it traced back to the 1300's.

Please respond if you have any further info.

Thanks

I have a source which says that Wheddon (it didn't list Whedon as a variant) means "wheat hill", while Wheaton means "wheat town". Old English dun vs. tun.
