The only word closest to the spelling and sound of this surname is scuteste in Romanian that means "to spare".But I wonder if there are other meanings in other languages. Also Scozzese means Scottish in Italian, I doubt the name could change that much through time. And Skute Sjo means sea boat in Norwegian.

At the moment this surname only exists near Venice, at ODERZO.
In fact the surname is probably from Southern Italy. It could come from the village of CAPOSELE, near AVELLINO, not very far from NAPLES.
It looks like a sicilian surname SCUTO. now more common around Italy.
The suffixe "-ese" very often indicates that the surname has a locative origin.
But unfortunately i haven't found aout any place in Italy called Scuto.

I know where the surname is from, that is Avellino, but that doesn't tell me the meaning of the word. Also, I know it's not a sicilian name either, most sicilian names come from the arabic. And Scuto means Scudo (shield).I'd like to know the meaning of the word, not the results of white pages or gens labo. Please, if you can remove the address in Venice, the name is not that common here.Danke.
