Jimenez is a Spanish patronymic name derived from the biblical name Simon (meaning-gracious hearing). It's popularity in the Middle Ages was due to affection for Simon Bar-Jonah surnames Peter, rather than to Simeon the second son of Jacob by Leah. It also means son of Ximena. I found this information at www.vitalog.net. You might try looking in a Spanish surname book at the library, or a Spanish surname database.
