Ruey
Hello,
Does anyone have any information about the surname Ruey? I know of only two family groups in the US with the last name and in both cases the ancestor came from France. Thanks, Ellen

According to Jean Tosti this name means "little stream", and so is locative. However, he then goes on to add that a German origin cannot be ruled out, coming from Rutz, a diminutive of Rudolf. I think the basis of this idea is that the name belongs to Saone et Loire, a region close to Lorraine and the Swiss border. I prefer the first suggestion.

Thank you for researching the meaning of my last name. I've been trying to trace the Ruey family for quite a while now and to know that it's French is a great help.

I speak German and 'Ruey' doesn't sound like anything I know; to me it sounds French.
