I believe "Hutson" is a variant of "Hudson". In Great Britain and early
colonial times people would give or create surnames by adding "son" to the name of someone's father. So my guess is the son of a man named Hut or Hud, probably sort for some name, was giving the surname Hudson when the era of the surname came to fruition. This was a popular process of creating surnames when in Great Britain the names William, James, and Thomas were being used in every family, which was the reason of surnames in Great Britain in the first place.
