Re: Legesse
There seems to be a dearth of knowledge of African names among posters to this site. I usually direct enquirers to a site that is dedicated to African names, but
a) The message board there is not operational at the moment, and
b) Every time I try to post a reply containing the site's URL, the spam filter here rejects my message.
Legesse seems to be a surname and forename (male) of the Omoro people of Ethiopia. So it should be safe to assume that it was originally the given name of a male ancestor. The meaning has not come to light

Interesting. Thank you. I have actually never heard of the Omoro people. Could you please send me another message about the African name website when the message board there becomes operational? Thank you.

Maybe if I split the URL, so www.namesite to which you add .com
Here is a wikipedia article about the Oromo -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oromo
I notice that some of the names in the article are also found among non-Oromo Ethiopians, and this might be true of your surname. Who knows?

Thanks for the info and the website. I was just wondering, does this website (www.namesite) contain surnames or just first names because all I could find was first names.

That's true of the lists of names, though many of those names can also be found as second names. As I recall, when the forum was running there were also queries about surnames there. It was similar to this site.
