I've never found a list of the commonest Armenian surnames, but if anyone knows of one please share the knowledge.
It seems to me that the commonest Armeninian surnames are patronymics like Petrosian, Sarkisian, Gevorgian. I don't recall hearing the name Darbinian in reference to a real person, only in written work on surnames. On the other hand I've heard of several Armenians surnamed Demirjian. This is from the Turkish word for a blacksmith, demirci.

You'll find such a list at http://names.mongabay.com/most_common_surnames.htm. The website 411.com lists 32 Darbinians in the US as compared to 300 Demirjians. There's an interesting article on smith in various languages at http://www.genealogytoday.com/columns/everyday/020509.html.
