Re: "Joy" surname info
Joy is an English surname, belonging mainly to the southern counties. There are several possible meanings: the given name of a femaile ancestor, or, less likely, a male ancestor; a nickname identifying a joyful person; or an ironic description of a joyless person. All in all, I'd plump for the first explanation as the most likely.
