It is. It's from an old place-name which you are unlikely to find on a map. "... the old manor of Plenderleith in Oxnam, Roxburghshire" (G. F. Black). There is some evidence that the first syllable is from the Brythonic PREN, meaning "tree". Otherwise the name is yet to be explained.

The name is derived from certain members of the Kennedy clan from the borders of Scotland. A group of them used to go on raids to the twon of Leith just outside Edinburgh. They became known as the Plunderers of Leith. Hence Plenderleith.
