The surname Canzius that I know of was a dutch surname in the 16th century. Many of the dutch ancestors went to Suriname and Java with the V.O.C. (Dutch east India Company) that traded spices from there. The origin is Latin from Canis which means Dog, like Canis Minor and Canis Major, which is the Dog star in the constellation. The German surname Hundt is also derived from this origin.
