The only etymology I can find is at http://www.ancestry.co.uk/facts/Granucci-places-origin.ashx but it should be taken with a grain of salt.

has a note on the surnames Grani and Grano. One suggestion for the origin of these names is the Norman given name Warren (Southern Italy and Sicily were under Norman rule for a time in the Middle Ages). Another is that they derive from an old Celtic given name. If there was a personal name Grano then Granucci could be from a diminutive form, Granuccio.
