From what I can tell there are a few origins for the name Hinkle. There are also a few different spellings: Hencle, Hinckle, Henkle, Hincle, etc.
Can someone tell me the origin and/or meaning of Hinkle? I know my family came from Denmark/Germany. The Schleswig-Holstein area seems to be our family's origin. Hope that helps!

Hinkle is an alteration of German Hinkel as you can see at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gretzinger_desc&id=I74271. Hinkel is a pet form of Hinrich, a variant of Heinrich 'Henry'.
