Origin of surname Kubash
Hi, if anyone can tell me anything at about the name Kubash that would be great. I cant seem to find much, but my father gave me a small metal block with a crest or arms on it but no text when he died. It is about 2cm.sq. and is a dark silvery color. He said once that it was given to him by his father John Joseph Kubash, and my two uncles got a ring with the arms or crest on it that was made of gold and the other uncle got a banner with the same thing. I know nothing else at this point, both uncles have passed and I don't know where those things went. If anyone has any info that would be awesome!

Kubash is an alteration of Czech Kubaš. You can see when the change occurred at http://is.gd/bAM2Z. You'll find the origin of Kubaš at http://www.ancestry.com/facts/kubas-name-meaning.ashx.

I am not sure whether there is a connection with this info, but I found the name al-Kubash, a.o. used in Africa (I have no further details). In Arabic al-Kubash (or Alkubash) الكبش means "ram".I also found a posting of somebody, who was researching the name Kubash / Kubas. His ancestor with this name came from Czechoslovakia to the USA in the beginning of the 20th century. Here's the link:

P.S.: note, that it might be possible that the transliterations, that I mentioned, only refer to the country of Cuba.
