Meaning of the Russian surname "Poplawski"
I am curious as to the meaning of the name Poplawski. It is Russian and probably related to Poplavski/Poplavsky. Anyone know? Thanks.

I found a Russian word, "popleska" which means peasant. Also, "pop" can mean priest ...just FYI ...

Correction, I'm now pretty sure the name is Polish, with the "-ski" meaning "son of", if the suffix "-lawski" doesn't mean something entirely different.

I think it may be based on the Serbo-Croatian or Slowenian word for flood: 'Poplava' (this is also a surname).
