surname 'Koppe'
Does anyone know anything about the history/meaning of this name? I'm told it's Dutch, and is pronounced as if the 'o' were a German 'o, umlaut' and the 'e' were a schwa ('uh'). Thanks.

It is Dutch and it is a patronym, thus from a father's name. It means "son of Koppe" and the firstname Koppe comes from Jakob, thus Jacob. About the pronunciation, the 'e' is a schwa, but i don't think the o is pronounced 'ö' as in German, maybe in dialect, that is possible, but in standard Dutch, it just would be the English copper without the 'r'.
