Subject: "JUNDZE" THE LATVIAN FAMILY NAME
Author: Justin   (guest, 82.124.189.101)

Hi,

I have been looking for the meaning of the Latvian family Jundze, which belongs to a friend of mine who comes from Latvia. I spoke to a Latvian man who said that it might be of German origin since the name did not have any meaning in modern Latvian. He said it might come from a German baron, since a lot of Latvian surnames do, and that it might have derived from the word "Junga" (Junge in German) which means "boy who learns the skills of sailor."

Is there anybody out there who knows how I might find the meaning of this name or at least its possible meanings relative to Latvia? My friend says that her family is all from Latvia so far as she knows.

Thank you very much,
have a nice day.
Justin
