Renoir meaning?
Hi, I'm doing some research for a story and I really like the name Renoir. However, I can't find any information regarding the meaning or origin of the name, all I know about it is it's French.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

It's a variant of Reynard, from Old German meaning something like, "wise like a fox or wolf"...

They say it's from Raginward. Reynard (Renard etc.) derives from Raginhard...

I just pulled it out of a name book ...so what does Raginhard mean ...something similar ...stength or wisdom from some animal, a fox or wolf, I think ... they're all similar ...

Since you said in your first answer it means 'something like (...)', I thought you were working from memory. If you don't care I don't care.

I've got a bunch a books and sites at hand, some I have more faith in than others ...I enjoy the exercise of finding the words, but sometimes it seems folks don't put any effort into finding names for themselves ...the ones who at least try a bit, I like to delve a bit deeper for ...but you're right, I don't care that much ... just interesting ...
