Well, I cannot find any French variants of Stilborn. Perhaps it is from a place so called Stilborn, perhaps "born" was originally "burn", meaning "stream" in old English. Another close sounding surname I found is Shelburn. Variants include Shelbourne, Shellburn and others. Shellbourne is a Lincolnshire surname, also most concentrated in Nottinghamshire.
