On the contrary, last year I saw a Bulgarian house for sale advertized by a Mrs.Gazey of deepest Bulgaria and not one of us British Gazeys. So the name must exist there. Of course another thought is that Gazey is simply a corruption of the old English Gaz {goose} -ley{pasture/meadow}. With accents thick and education poor it would be an easy mistake. Think "I come from Hereford" whick translated its way to the surname Hurford.
