Ultimately from the Greek male given name Hypatios, meaning something like 'high' or 'highest', name of various saints of Orthodox church. This becomes Ipatiy in Russian and Ukrainian, with diminutive form Pachey, or similar. With Ukrainian surname suffix you get Pachenko.
