Alessandro Giuseppe Antonio Anastasio Gerolamo Umberto Volta gives his name to the terms "volt" and "voltaic pile" but what gives meaning to his surname? Anyone knows?

Volta is the name of a number of places in Italy. The word itself means a bend in a river or road.

Thanks! That explians a lot because "voltear" is Spanish for "to turn around" and Spanish is related to Italian and bending nad turnign around are very semantically related
