Tokumura
Anyone knows the etymology of this Japanese surname? (belonged to Tokumura Kensho, I am guessing its a surname)

Toku means 'virtue' and mura means 'village'. You'll find similar names at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=tokuda and http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=muraoka.

Any evidence of a place name 'Tokumura'? I suspect that some of these 'locative' names were fabricated in the 19th century, when surnames became compulsory in Japan.

If Tokumura is a placename, it's not listed at http://www.geonames.org/advanced-search.html? or http://geonames.nga.mil/ggmagaz/.
