Romie
My dad's last name is Romie. My great grandmother would like us to believe that is is french, and was shortened from 'Romieu' (another name for Malbec wine..) after our family came to the states at some point. However, my dad has his doubts about that because my great grandmother was a high society wannabe and wanted to seem like our name had some importance. So we want to know, does anyone have any opinions about where this surname could be from? Is it french, english, scotch, etc..? Would like an opinion on the etymology of it if possible or just if you have ever met anyone else with this surname. Thank you

You'll find genealogical information on Romie at tinyurl.com/o5locrl and tinyurl.com/ojmrf2p. It seems to be a variant of Romey and Romig whose origin you'll find at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=romig.
