Am I polish!?

Im concerned as to why I cannot find anything pertaining to my last name.

My last name is : Peszat

My father is 100% polish and so was his mom(my nana) Dolores Peszat.

Please advise on anything anybody?

I would really appreciate anything you have to offer me.

I am female dad is polish and mom is italian. :)

Peszat is a pretty rare name in Poland as you can see at tinyurl.com/nrpuael so that's probably why it's so hard to find its origin.

Though the name is Polish as spelt the origin may be more complicated. There is also a German surname, Peschat, which looks like the same name. A list of East Prussian names online gives the ending -at as a Baltic diminutive. Some examples from the name list are Adomat, from Adam; Endruschat, from Andrew; and Peterat from Peter. Not all -at names are from personal names, the list contains some said to be from place names, eg. Meinekat and Rudat. Others appear to be nicknames; Kassat from the Latvian Kaze, 'goat', and Jotzat from the Lithuanian juodas, 'black'.
East Prussia was part of the kingdom of Prussia, which also took in traditional Polish territory. The names reflect the mixture of languages and influences affecting the population and its names; German, Slavic, and the Baltic languages, Old Prussian, Lithuanian and Latvian.

Czech has Pešat, and since Pešek and Pešik are known to be pet forms of Peter, that could very well be the case for Pešat also. German has borrowed this root and created names like Peschke and Peschel, inter alia.

(And I think this surname is slowenisch, probably)

No idea really, but could it be referring to someone who came from Pest (pesh), as in Budapest?
