PLEASE HELP: what is the meaning of the surname 'Radmore' or derivatives..?
Hey all,

I've recently been trying to find the meaning of my family name 'Radmore' on the net but to no avail! please if anyone has any helpful info please e-mail me or post it here!

I live in Devon in the UK and suspect my name to be of Devonshire origin as my father and his family have always lived in Devon and I know of various other 'Radmores' scattered around the county.. I do not have contact with any of these however and cannot trace my fathers line back very far..

On the internet it suggests that other Radmores may hail from Yorkshire or various places in the US and Canada.

I imagine the 'more' part of my name is to do with living on, or near, a moor [marsh].. am i right?

what does the 'rad' part mean??

Can anyone help me!!

Sorry James ...I'm half lit, just off a plane, but your note caught my attention before I head off to bed ...so take it at what it's worth

Rad usually means red ...more can either mean, like you said moor or more like in big ...not complicated ...
