Relax ...it's an easy one for Irish name books ...it's from Ó Maolcathaigh, from the first name Cathach ...'O' means obviously, "descended of" (roughly) and 'maol' means "devotee of" (it's actually from a word meaning {I believe} censure ...the act of monks shaving the middle of their heads) and 'cathaigh' meaning "warlike" ...'cath' meaning basically "war" ... there are many names that are similar ...
