Subject: Vankoughnett

Hello all. I've been a big fan of behindthename.com (surnames.behindthename.com included, of course) for quite some time, but it was only just now, when idly searching for an etymology for 'Vanhomrigh', that I discovered this message board. Excellent resource, this.

In any event, I'm looking for information on the surname Vankoughnett. I know one Vankoughnett, and there are a bunch more in my area of Ontario, Canada. I've seen it spelt Vancoughnett as well. A website I found while googling lists it as a variant of Vanconant, which could very well be. As far as I know, the ancestors of the fellow I know came from the Low Countries, probably somewhere in what's now the Netherlands. Can anyone give me any information on this name?
