In fact "lobo" in modern spanish means "wolf", but in old Spanish it was rather "lope" similar to the italian word "Lupo".
Both in Italy and Spain many surnames derived some centuries ago from the word "wolf": "lupus"in latin.
In Middle Ages Lupo and Lope were first names in Italy and Spain.Regards
