I could be wrong, but I believe is comes from the original Gaelic name Shaughnessy. It would mean "son of Shaughnessy" and is definitely Irish, yeah. One site I found says that Shaughnessy means "elusive" but of course, that could be false information. There is a site that I can definitely get the history/meaning for you, but it's down right now or something because my computer can't find it.Good luck!

Hi Camille,
Thanks heaps, if you could let me know the site that you speak of, that would be wonderful. As we are trying to get as much information about this name before we decide if we are 100% going to use it for our baby.
Thanks
