Meaning & History

The story I was told was:

There were many people who were participating in something of a pioneer journey either form or to Prussia. There was a particular part of the journey that crossed a raging river and many of the people attempting to cross it were struggling to such a degree that there was a fear of loss of lives. There was a family was first to cross, then the strong among them went back to help others make the same journey. I was told several of the family died in the act of helping others. The name Nabrotzky was given to the family that day. It means “One who helps others across the River/Way.”
