Meaning & History

A habitational name for an individual whom lived within close proximity of the River Rhine (see Rhein). The river name is derived from a Celtic word meaning 'to flow' (Welsh redan, 'flow').

As an Irish name, the meaning is uncertain. It is, however, possibly a variant of Ryan.
