Meaning & History
Variant of WESLEY
The surname Weasley derived from the Normans and spread to England in 1066 by the Norman Conquest. The earlier uses of Weasley were more commonly among the rich and royalty. It eventually spread to the Americas, one of the first American Weasleys being John Weasley, who arrived in 1716. Weasley is now most commonly known from Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter series. Ronald and his large family were a large piece of the books and their surname gives a very good indication of its background.
