Meaning & History

Possibly dating back to the Ottoman Empire's invasion of Europe, the original Turkic meaning is veiled in mystery, and possibly meant "one who comes from the edge of the lake."

The surname changed as the Turkic peoples moved westward. "Lepsy" seems very similar to the Slavic (Czech) word "lepsi," meaning "over" or "better."

The origin of the surname may be lost to the distant past, but is a remnant kept alive by the nations affected by the Ottoman invasions.
