Meaning & History

The name came originally from France. An officer of Napoleon Bonaparte during the French Russian war, in 1812 stayed in Poland and married. One of his sons, became a regional Judge and large land owner in the Belarus area of Poland. He had 18 offspring. Nine of the offspring over the years moved from Poland to the United States between 1848 to 1906. One settled in the UK, and one in Canada (a catholic priest). The offspring's of the Judge and their decedents now number over 350 in Poland and 155 in the USA. Many of the Bubien family descendants are known for athletics, author, musical, political, and science accomplishments.
