When I hear this name I think of the Britta water filter. If it weren't for that I would think it was a nice name. I would probably use it as a nn for Brittany though.

I think of that water purifier brand. I don't care for it.

Better than Brittany, but I think of the brand-name (we have those water purifiers here as well). I prefer Brenna or Brynn / Brynna.

Can we say Britta Water Filter? *sorry... but it is seriously the first thing I thought of* and obviously so did others.

I actually do think of a tall blond Swede.. it's painfully stereotypical. If I met a Britta, I'd probably wince if she was a tall blonde Swede, and wince if she wasn't. If she was Swedish, I'd decide it was a nice name, though. It seems a tad (I'm hating to use this phrase, but I really do have this impression as a first impression) "Euro-chic" on a non-Swedish girl or woman. I suspect that that impression would also fade, though, on getting to know a Britta. It doesn't give me as strong an impression as for, say, Milan. In the US, most people will pronounce it with the T sound slightly blunted to a D sound (myself included).. it'd feel stiff and phony for us to say it with a nice crisp T. If you're in the US, that's something to take into account.((by the way, it's a 'Brita' water filter -- not Britta; it does remind me of that, too. But not much, since I never thought Britta was the name of the filter.)) - chazda

Britta is nice. Better than Brittany (a name that was ruined for at least three decades by Ms Britney Spears)...

I knew a beautiful little girl by that name. Most people would've pron. it "Bridda." However, she & her family were adamant about pronouncing the crisp t's in the name. I like it, but could never use it, as our surname begins w/Britt. Could you imagine? Britta Britt****. (Shudders)
