I see where you come from, with Rosaura meaning something along the lines of "rose-gold" (aurum = gold).
I would say the name is a combination of Rosa + Aura, separate names, separate meanings . It doesn't necesarily have to make sence, as for it meaning "rose-halo". Some name combos are very popular in Spanish speaking countries, just for the heck of it...? or because they flow well...? who knows. There is Aura Marina, which doesn't necesarily mean "marine halo", to set an example.
Anywho, back to Rosaura, I would say it is simply the combination of Rosa and Aura. It could mean "pink halo" or "halo of the rose"... it is all in the eyes of the beholder.
I know that some "baby names" websites (which are mostly a bunch of crap), claim that Rasaura means "Rosa de oro" but also, claim that Rosario means "jardín de rosas" (which anyone knows, it doesn't. It means simply "Rosary")... I wouldn't take their word for it.
