my mother was born in zagreb and her name is venca which was made up as a female version of victor. my grandmother's name is davorka which i believe is a city in croatia.
Janica is diminutive of Jana
Slavica is diminutive of Slava, which indeed means glory
Ivica is diminutive of Ivan.
Marijan is probbably male form of Marijana, which is composed of two names Marija and Ana.
In Croatia there is a lots of names that are actually diminutives of the original names. That is why sometimes male and female names sound similar like Ivica (m) and Janica (f). Those are the names of famous croatian olympic gold medalist and her brother.
