WDYT? I've always like Ernest as a mn, but I've lately started liking it as a first name as well. It's one of the few virtue names that I would really consider using. Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Ernest" is the first thing that comes to my mind, which is one of the reasons I originally liked it. Any suggestions for good mns?

I *love* Ernest although I usually shy away from virtue names too

I just think of...

Ernest, that guy in those dumb movies (Jim Varney?) so the name isn't very appealing to me. And the nickname Ernie will always be associated with Ernie of Sesame Street.

I don't like it at all. It's too old for me. I picture a wrinkly, bald, toothless old man when I hear the name.

Yuck the first thing that comes to my mind is that Ernest guy thats like is a janitor or something. Do you know who Im talking about? Hes a yucky old man who is a klutz or something like that. And Ernest makes me think of an old man too.

It's my fathers name and I have always considered using it as a middle name. To tell you the truth I am not that crazy about because it's got horrible images of the Ernest goes to camp movies. I say if you like it use it! Instead of the dated nickname Ernie maybe Ern would be better.

Well, I'm not a big fan of Ernest. It strikes me as nerdy, I guess. Although in the right combination I might like it as a middle name. But if you like it, go for it! :)

I don't care for it, as I don't find it at all masculine or strong. I think of the word earnest, before Wilde's play. I know one Ernest (in his early 60s), and he hates his name, and he only goes by Ernie.

Anyway, I suggest Ernest Charles.

I like the "air-nest" pron, but not the English one.
The only combo that comes to my mind is my cousin Ernest Ezra (air-nest eh-zrah, with the eh like air, pet, men...).
