[Facts] Griet
this name is in the novel Girl with a Pearl Earring. It's not on this site and i can't think or where it could be from. Some people said it as Gree-et others as Greet. So maybe from Margaret but that's just guessing. I think she's suppose to be Dutch from memory.

Hi Nai,Griet is used in Germany as well (Low German and Frisian short form of Margriet); and the pronunciation is "greet" (German R-sound of course).Regards, Satu

Pronounce it to rhyme with 'kit'. And the G is that lovely throat-clearing sound used in 'loch'.

Yup, it is Dutch. It is a pet form of Margaret. In fact it is on this site, under the form Greet.
