Help[Opinions] Ben ... and Isadora
I used to *hate* this name but I have met somone new with this name and within a couple of days I have fallen in love with it ...
So what are everyones opinions of *Ben*?
Would you use it a nn for Benjamin, Benedict, Bennet, Reuben or just Ben?
Also as an afterthought wdyt of the name *Isadora* (female)and *Isadore* (male), Is it too frilly? I think personally it's a 'strong' sounding name like Matilda or Kate but I have had negative feedback on it

Ben is very, very dull to me. I do love Bennet and Benaiah, but if I named my son one of those, I'd avoid calling him Ben at all costs as I really dislike it.
I love Isadora for a girl, but I find Isadore very pretentious - I don't think boys can carry off frilly names.

I was really neutral on Ben for awhile, but I have a good friend named Ben now so I've also really fallen for the name :-)
I've always loved Isadora. It's the name of one of my favorite dancers and I think it's really pretty.
Isadore is cute, but I don't think I'd ever use it.

I would use it as a nn for Benjamin or Bennett. And I like.
Isadora is just lovely! It's one of the more obscure family names but it doesn't seem to work as well for a middle name. But as a first name I think it's great. Very pretty and a nice alternative to the popular Isabella.

I think Ben works for all the names beginnig on Ben-, but for Reuben I prefer the nn Rube.
I really like Isadora, but I don't feel it's that strong, more frilly then. It has a floaty quality to it, poetic. Like Isadora Duncans dancing.
I have had bad feedback too when I've mentioned it as a possible name for my offspring. They just wont see the pretty in it. :)
Isadore for a man is too feminime IMO.
Btw, Ben and Isadora fit together well.

I personally like Ben as a nn, but think it's a little short by itself as a name. However, there are mothers who disagree with me & have named their sons just Ben. Imagine! :-) I would use Ben as a nn for Benjamin, Benaiah, Ebenezer, Bennett, but not for Rueben. I like that name enough to let it stand by itself; however, it's entirely plausible to use Ben as a nn for Rueben.
As for Isadora, I much, MUCH prefer it to Isabella, and don't think it sounds frilly at all. I agree that it sounds like a strong name, but is more pleasant sounding to my ears than some other so-called strong feminine names. Isadore on a boy is ok, too, but I can't think of any nn for him other than Izzy or Dore. If you want a cool nn, you'll have to be creative!

I like Ben. I think it could stand alone, but I prefer it as a nn for Benjamin or Bennett (that spelling).
Isadore and Isadora are okay, but they remind me awfully much of the phrase "is a door", and that would likely bring about teasing on a RL child. Nice character name, though. I agree, it does sound 'strong' as a girl's name, but a little feminine for a boy...which is not a bad thing! Two of my favourite boys names atm are Robin and Clare.
