[Facts] Origin of the name Dana
I am a man that has the family name of Dana and wanted to know where it comes from. Everybody assumes that it's a girl's name, but I think it was used as a man's name first. Does anybody know?

It's probably a form of Edwina. Click on the hyperlink for more info. And, in the future, please do two things: don't type in All Caps (which is the online equivalent of shouting, and is thus considered rude), and don't usurp another person's thread to ask your own name question (which is also considered a bit rude). Thanks.

In South Africa Dana is pronounced DAH na (not DAY na) and is exclusively masculine; it's a standard-issue nickname for Daniel. It may well be used in the Netherlands as well; I don't know. So, if there's a link to the Low Countries in your family, it might be worth investigating. All the best

Click here: Dana.Next time, please search for your name on the main page of Behind the Name before you ask here. This board is only for questions regarding names not in the database, or for more information than the database entry already provides.

Bitter...table for one! Well, aren't you just the curt little one?! First you slam Edwana and then go after me. I did look at the listing for Dana on the board and it did not answer my question, which if you read my question and the listing for it you would have known this. Thanks for playing. If anyone else has any "useful" and relevant information to contribute I would appreciate it.
