[Opinions] Re: Wdyto Marilla?
Marilla is listed on the net as either being short for Amarilla or a variant of Muriel. It is Amarillo that I am actually trying to get info on since it is a Harry Potter name.Strange note - Marilla was in love with Gilbert Blyth's father and it was her who encouragaed Anne to pursue Gilbert. PS. For a funny take on the Anne of Green Gables story, I would recommend that you pick up a copy of Canned Lit.Also not that Anne's favorate name was Cordellia - and in Atwood's Cat's Eye, a woman with a family tradition of naming daughters after best friends spends most of the book complaining about a girl named Cordellia but names her daughter Annie.- / - amaryllis (from) amarysso, amaryssein=(orig) to sparkle, to twinkle, to scintillate, to shine, (later) fresh and sparkling flower, (later) the amaryllis lily flower, associated with innocence, (later) the belladonna lily; - / - belladonna=beautiful lady; - / - amaryllis=(orig) sparkle, sparkling, dazzling, splendour, splendid beauty, pride, (later) fresh, fresh flower; - / - amarilla, amaryllis=a virginal greek nymph and shepherdess; see Lily; - / - perpetua amarilla=yellow everlasting; see Perpetua;Amarillo=yellow, gold;
