Unfortunately I already know Aida's correct pronunciation so I won't be able to speculate otherwise. Anyone who's been exposed to or had to learn anything about Verdi will probably be familiar with Aida, or at least familiar enough to recognize the name/opera Aida.
I personally prefer ay-da spelled Ada although that spelling isn't foolproof either as I've heard some people pronounce it add-a. That being said, it may be just as confusing for the child to have people say ah-ee-da instead of ay-da and wonder why.
