I agree with your Amy-for-Amelia. It's always been my tendency to take nicknames from second and third syllables, rather than firsts (a la Stacy-for-Anastasia), so I like Cole for Nicholas, Rick for Maverick, and Brie or Elle for Gabrielle. (I knew a Brie-for-Gabrielle, she was cute.) My all time FAVORITE nn is probably Carrie, though. It's just... cute.
