Help[Opinions] Emile vs. Emilio
Yesterday, I did a poll to see which form would work better for a caucasian child, Emile or Emilio (at the link below):

Since Emilio has a stronger "ethnic" connotation, at first I thought that Emile would work better on a caucasian child. However, since some commented on how Emile might be mistaken for a kre8uv form of Emily when I posted about the name a while ago, I thought that Emilio might be more distinct. The poll seems to be in favor of Emile as of the time I posted this thread (and I am leaning towards Emile myself).

First of all, my comment will be that I don't think one has to choose a name based on how "good" it would sound on a Caucasian child (this applies to any ethnicity, etc.)
I don't care for Emile or Emilio, but I would prefer Emilio, just for the sound of it (Emile looks and sounds incomplete). I would not think Emile is a creative form of Emily - that's just taking the whole "creatively spelling the name Emily" too far.

Don't particularly like either name, but I would still go with Emilio, before I went with Emile. I agree that some might see Emile as a creative spelling of Emily and that also would put me off using the name. It think Emilio is fine for a caucasian baby. I know of an Irish comedian, who is married to an Australian lady (nice choice!) and they have a daughter called Rose and a son called Mario! Mario, as you will know is not Irish or Australian, but so what?! They thought it was a cute name, so they used it, which is fair enough.

I prefer Emilio, but I do think it'd raise eyebrows on a Caucasian child since it's so obviously Italian.
I strongly dislike Emile - the "meel" sound is whiney and unattractive to me. I can see most English-speakers pronouncing it eh-MEEL, which would only emphasise that. Having said that, I think Emile would work better on a child with no French heritage, than Emilio on a child with no Italian heritage.
