Are we allowed to use fem./masc. forms of names?

Notes:
Favourite singer: Christina Aguilera. Obviously a female, so I masculinised her name for my answer.
Scottish name: Evander's commonly associated with the Greek for "good man", and its Roman mythological namesake. But Evander's also the Anglicised form of Iomhar, the Scottish form Ivor ("yew warrior" or "bow warrior", i.e. "archer" in Old Norse). Both Iomhar and Evander are used in Scotland.
